JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

Answers calls from the public needing police, fire or EMS, as well as from other public safety agencies and dispatching the appropriate emergency agency and / or equipment.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Answers 9-1-1 and administrative phone calls (high volume)

Dispatches (high volume) police fire and emergency medical calls for ten (10) police departments, two (2) ambulance services with approximately twenty (20) medic vehicles and twenty-eight (28) fire departments.

Activates and/or coordinates the emergency operations center upon notification.

Inquire on vehicle and drivers license and criminal history information on the West Virginia Automated Police Network via the computer assisted dispatch system.

Constantly monitors status of all units on duty in the field.

SECONDARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Fill out various forms and logs.

2. Make notification for request for wreckers from the field units.

3. Conducts training drills

4. Activates search and rescue

5. Activates emergency disaster system such as Plectrons (warning system strategically located throughout the county) and disaster sirens also located throughout the county.

6. Activate the emergency warning system (telephone ring down, cable intercept and emergency broadcast system)

7. Must be familiar with West Virginia domestic violence and other West Virginia state laws.

TRAINING

Required to successfully complete all training that is required to become a Metro Emergency Operations Center Telecommunicator which includes MEOC 40-hour basic communications course, APCO 40-hours basic telecommunicator’s course, 40-hourAdvanced Computer Assisted Dispatch (A-CAD) course and 240-hour advanced communications training.

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES

Must hold a current CPR certification; ability to hear and understand conversation of persons speaking in normal tone ; vision corrected to 20/20; good health is essential; ability to type thirty (30) words per minutes

Computerized E-9-1-1 telephone system with automatic number identifier and automatic location identifier.

Computer assisted dispatch (CAD) system.

Communications control dispatch radio system multi-channel with encoder.

Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD)

National Warning System (NAWAS) telephone

Integrated Flood Observing and Warning System (IFLOWS)

National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS), West Virginia Automated Police Network (WEAPON) and teletype system accessed through the computer assisted dispatch system.
